What the work covers
A mist coat is not simply a thin decorative coat. Its job is to create a sound base on new, absorbent plaster so subsequent coats can bond consistently. The product and dilution must follow the paint manufacturer’s instructions for the actual substrate.
For larger new-build or refurbishment areas, airless spraying can increase output and produce even coverage. Windows, floors, sockets, joinery and adjacent finished work are masked before spraying starts.

How the work runs
A clear sequence from survey and preparation through to application, inspection and handover.
Stage 1
Plaster check
The plaster is checked for sufficient drying and any surface defects that need making good before coating.
Stage 2
Protection
Windows, floors, sockets, joinery and adjacent finishes are masked or sheeted before spray or roller work begins.
Stage 3
Mist coat
A compatible first coat is applied in line with the coating manufacturer’s guidance for new plaster.
Stage 4
Full decoration
Once the base is sound and dry, the specified finishing coats are applied to complete the decoration package.

Why does new plaster need a mist coat or suitable first coat?
Fresh plaster is absorbent. A compatible first-coat system allows the coating to bond correctly and creates a sound base for the finishing coats.
How long should new plaster dry before painting?
There is no single drying period that is correct for every job. Thickness, plaster type, ventilation, temperature and site conditions all affect drying, so the surface should be adequately dry before coating.
Why use airless spray on new plaster?
On suitable larger areas, airless spraying can apply coatings quickly and evenly. The surrounding area must be protected carefully and the coating still needs to be applied to the manufacturer’s requirements.
Do you take on whole developments?
Yes. The existing service includes mist coats and full decoration for individual extensions through to larger refurbishment and development packages, subject to survey and programme.
